Laura Linney's portrayal as vulnerable and yet powerful characters has helped make her one of the top American actors. Born to a well-known playwright father, but was raised by a single mom, who earned her living by working as a nurse. She began to take an interest in theater while working with her father during the summer, eventually studying acting, first in Brown University and then at Juilliard School. Following her graduation from Brown University she started her Broadway debut soon afterward. In the space of two years from this, her first feature film hit the market, and next year her TV debut. Her appearances have been in a variety of film, TV and stage productions since then. She received many accolades over the course of her career such as several Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. The actress has received nominations for five Tony Awards and three Oscar Awards nominations. However, despite her distinctions and awards, theater is her main interest and she is determined to play on screen and stage.
